The PARAMILITARY Show
the Houston Fire Museum becomes Local Art Space
July 16 through September 19, 2009
Opening Thursday, July 16
6 to 8PM
Fire Museum
2403 Milam (Midtown)
Apama Mackey Gallery and Houston Fire Museum proudly present the opening of its upcoming exhibition The Paramilitary Show. The groundbreaking exhibition features 8 artists working in Houston, LA and El Salvador.
The exhibition will illustrate the correlation between the military and the fire service. There is much to compare; rank, structure, training, attitude and willingness to risk one's life for the public safety. Fire is the enemy and these brave men and women willingly go into 'combat'.
This July, 8 artists will take over the Fire Museum in midtown Houston for an eclectic exhibition. Created to encourage visitors to see the building in a new light, Paramilitary utilizes installation art and new media to take over the space fully. Artists were asked to reinterpret the building structure or create a piece that highlighted the paramilitary structure of the fire service.
Artists include
Luciana Abait
Sharon Engelstein
Wayne Gilbert
Ann Harithas
J Hill
Ronald Moran
Patrick Renner
Ariane Roesch
