Woman files lawsuit against AMR because passenger next to her masturbated while she slept

A 21-year-old Harris County woman filed a $200,000 lawsuit against American Airlines alleging employees on a flight to Los Angeles from Dallas/Fort Worth Airport failed to protect her while she slept from another passenger who masturbated to her and ejaculated in her hair, according to a lawsuit she filed last week in Tarrant County.
The Harris County woman alleges employees knew of the risks associated with failing to “police the passengers to ensure that passengers do not hurt one another,” the suit states.
Airline officials did not return calls seeking comment. In a statement to a Houston television station last year, a spokesman said the company regretted the incident, but the flight crew took appropriate action.
The woman and her lawyer could not be reached for comment. The Star-Telegram does not identify victims of sexual crimes.
Destined for a Spring Break visit with family and friends March 19, the woman flew from Houston to DFW Airport and had settled into her seat for the last leg of flight 2074 to Los Angeles about 11 p.m., the suit states. The woman slept most of the flight, but awoke about 20 minutes before landing when the pilot announced the plane was on decent into Los Angeles. When the woman opened her eyes, she saw that an unknown man had moved into the seat next to her and was staring at her as he masturbated, the suit states.
The woman turned toward the window in embarrassment and in an act of nervousness began to run her fingers through her hair where she noticed “a substantial amount of an extremely sticky substance in her hair,” the suit states.
The woman began to cry and tried to get the attention of a flight attendant, but was unsuccessful, the suit states. Finally a passenger in the row in front of the woman comforted her and verified the semen in her hair, the suit states.
When the plane landed, employee called airport police and the man was arrested.
The suit alleges that the during the investigation, American Airlines employees told police they witnessed the man move from his assigned seat into the row where the woman was sleeping.
The woman is seeking punitive damages and a jury trial.

In Bruges

So, alot of times I mean to do what I'm supposed to do for this blog, i.e. go to some of the art related things which I promote in order to put pictures up and stuff. I know that's what has made this blog popular in the past year, well that and Robyn O'Neil nearly showing her t*ts on Howard Stern, see HERE. Ok Ok.. so it's mostly because she nearly showed her boobs that this blog grew, that and the regular art geek haters of BS (still in the midst of a kidnapping).

Unfortunately, I am not nearly as eager to attend most art events, and I have an even harder time taking pictures of you while you're there. For instance today I expected to attend the UH PHOTO / DIGI show... and the BLAFFER Anniversary Celebration, especially because of the free beer, instead I went downtown with the lady ... ate too much for my already bloated stomach and then watched a really great film at the Angelika called IN BRUGES starring Colin Farrell and Ralph Feinnes.

Sometimes I'd rather talk about movies. Check out a synopsis here: FKDJFKDJF

I believe this is the first film where I can appreciate Farrell as an actor. In this film he isn't a cocky Brad Pitt wannabe, or a typical asshole character. I actually felt for his tortured, somewhat aloof persona, and Ralph Feinnes is absolutely insane! He reminds me of Ben Kingsley in SEXY BEAST, a total pathological madman:

However, to remain art-talky... There is some great focus on the flemish art... particularly the darker medieval material by Gerard David:

The_Judgment_of_Cambyses

Here is the WIKI on Gerard David.

Also FYI, the city of Bruges apparently has the most intact medieval architecture in Europe, and it is beautifully on view in this film.

And if you went to any art shows tonight, tell me how they were. :D

Post-TENSION!

This is gonna be a great show people. Houston's little darling the THE JOANNA tells us what it's like after the tension of post-abstraction...or something like that... post post post... Check out these up and coming young artists... and supposedly the only collaborative group allowed in Houston, I love you baby, (but I've chosen darkness) - sorry I had to throw in that Austin reference with SXSW coming up... anyway... These The Joanna shows are usually the place to be, energetic, fresh, retarded, and just lovely:

FRENETIC THEATER PRESENTS

Zomberina! May 16, 17, 23, 24, 31, June 1

"Our next production, "Zomberina!" marks FrenetiCore's debut into the genre of dark comedy. Here's the press release:

"Zomberina" is a comedy of necrotic oddities. A ballet company infected with a virus that transforms them into zombies finds themselves at a dance competition. Hilarity ensues as the zomberinas crash the stage, consume the performers (and a dance critic or two) and instinctively finish the performance. Including sophisticated special effects, aerial bungee dance, and site-specific film. Performed by FrenetiCore and guest dancers Marisol Sarabia, Reyie Delgado, Brittany Wallis, and Joe Modlin. Choreography by Rebekah French and Ashley Horn. Original film and music by Robert Thoth. "

This is not a picture of the dancers, but I thought it was totally sweet!

ARTIST DEDUCTION BILL

"This artist deduction bill (S.548) would give artists the right to deduct the fair market value of their work when donating it to a charity. We artists are always asked to donate work to charitable causes for fundraising purposes but when our work is auctioned, the buyer gets the benefit of being allowed to deduct their contribution above the market value, whereas the contributing artists and artisans can only deduct the amount of the material costs of creating their work (the cost of paint, canvas, clay, paper...)

This bill is non-partisan and fair. Please click on this link and simply by typing in your zip code a letter of support will be sent to your particular senators and congressmen. Clicking on the image above will allow you to enter your zip code so a letter can be sent to your congress person."

Prospect.1 Biennial Selects Eighty-One Artists

03.11.08 - Dan Cameron, director and curator of the Prospect.1 Biennial in New Orleans, has announced the names of the eighty-one artists selected to participate in the inaugural edition of Prospect.1, which is being billed as the largest biennial of international contemporary art ever organized in the United States, on view from November 1, 2008, through January 18, 2009. Prospect.1 had been conceived to help reinvigorate the city, a historic regional artistic center, and to redevelop it as a cultural destination following the devastation of Hurricane Katrina. Hailing from thirty-six countries and five continents, the artists selected include Allora and Calzadilla, Cao Fei, Isaac Julien, Cai Guo-Qiang, Wangechi Mutu, Amy Sillman, Pierre et Gilles, and Fred Tomaselli. Mark Bradford will create a wooden ark utilizing the shell of a destroyed house and other discarded scraps of wood from the Lower Ninth Ward. Navin Rawanchaikul will present his New Orleans I Love Taxi Project, in which he will interview taxi drivers and weave their tales into a comic-book story that he will produce and print, then distribute in city taxis during the biennial.

South By So What and so forth and so on

Spring Break is coming, so that means millions of music geeks, freaks, elitist pricks, and others in 'the know' will unite from all over the world in Austin, TEJAS for SOUTH BY SOUTH WEST... I cannnnnot stand City Worship... But SXSW is certainly a kick butt event... Are you going? If you are... send me some great photos and I'll post them here!

I am not attending, but if I were I'd check out:

OLD TIME RELIJUN
BLACK MOTH SUPER RAINBOW
HEARTS OF ANIMALS (houston)
OCTOPUS PROJECT
PATTERN IS MOVEMENT

But most importantly:

AIRLINE: A GARY NUMAN TRIBUTE BAND!

Why the fuck can't they get the real Gary Numan there? I have no clue... But even his old skool songs are better than most new material being made by today's bands(i'm talking pre-goth '90s - 2000s Numan).

Here he is in all his glory circa Living Ornaments tour of 1980 (i believe):

Some people consider him a one hit wonder... Pshshhhh... try Four Hit Album Genius. From The Tubeway Army (1978), Replicas (79), the brilliant Pleasure Principle (79), and Telekon (80) he paved the way for alot of contemporary synth pop, electronica, dance, and industrial rock. He partly made me who I am today.... one slick mother fu...

Oh yeah, for more SXSW news visit: http://sxsw.com/

but check out this sweet Numan video:

Kentucky Lawmaker Wants to Make Anonymous Internet Posting Illegal

By Kellie Wilson

Kentucky Representative Tim Couch filed a bill this week to make anonymous posting online illegal.

The bill would require anyone who contributes to a website to register their real name, address and e-mail address with that site.

Their full name would be used anytime a comment is posted.

If the bill becomes law, the website operator would have to pay if someone was allowed to post anonymously on their site. The fine would be five-hundred dollars for a first offense and one-thousand dollars for each offense after that.

Representative Couch says he filed the bill in hopes of cutting down on online bullying. He says that has especially been a problem in his Eastern Kentucky district.

Action News 36 asked people what they thought about the bill.

Some said they felt it was a violation of First Amendment rights. Others say it is a good tool toward eliminating online harassment.

Represntative Couch says enforcing this bill if it became law would be a challenge.

CONTEMPORARY ARTS MUSEUM HOUSTON PRESENTS CLASS PICTURES: PHOTOGRAPHS BY DAWOUD BEY

HOUSTON, Texas (Thursday, February 21, 2008) – From March 14 to May 11, the Contemporary Arts Museum Houston will present the 160th installment in its Perspectives series, Class Pictures: Photographs by Dawoud Bey. Organized by the Aperture Foundation, a not-for-profit organization devoted to photography and the visual arts, Class Pictures is comprised of large-scale portraits of American teenagers that refute false stereotypes and reveal the individual strengths of this age group.

“The powerful images of Dawoud Bey display the personalities of young adults that could not be more different from the depictions of teenagers we’re accustomed to seeing in the media,” said Contemporary Arts Museum Houston Curator Valerie Cassel Oliver. “These photographs reveal the depth of character and vulnerability that exist in real-life teenagers from our own families and communities.”

POLL RESULTS

A week ago I asked what you thought of B.S.'s handling of the Houston Art Scene on this here blog. Here are the final results:

Who? 14 (31%)

BS! Buffalo Sean, the creator of this online circle jerk of the Houston aRt ScEne. This tells me, perhaps he needs to be more assertive, and or speak in Third Person. Here's a photo of him, currently kidnapped:

Great, he says it like it is. 12 (26%)

I wish he were more critical. 7 (15%)

Prick. 7 (15%)

One time he talked shit about my stuff, I can't stand him. 5 (11%)

These last three equal a combined 41%, and basically tell me BS is doing something right, and needs to be more of a prick. Being a prick in reference to the Houston Art Scene, as a critic, or whatever is certainly a healthy thing. For the whiners who WERE critiqued, step it up you wussies. Most likely your stuff really is shitty, and you need to get over the marshmellowey skin stuff or whatever. :-o
