The MFAH is the first of only two museums on the national tour of The Ann Dunham Collection of Batik: Indonesian Identity and Artistic Tradition. This installation features traditional Indonesian batik textiles from the collection of President Barack Obama´s late mother, Ann Dunham, an anthropologist who spent many years in Indonesia. Also featured are batiks on loan from Houston-based collector Ita McCutchen.
Additional venues on the national tour include the Indonesian Consulates of New York, Chicago, and Los Angeles, as well as the Textile Museum in Washington, D.C.
