Communications and Marketing Manager

The Contemporary Arts Museum Houston (CAMH) seeks a Communications and Marketing Manager for a full-time, exempt position. The Communications and Marketing Manager is the Museum’s principal contact with the media and is responsible for marketing, advertising, media relations, and public relations planning and implementation. The Department of Communications and Marketing aims to enhance institutional positioning, media visibility, revenue, and audience.

The Communications and Marketing Manager’s general duties include, but are not limited to: conceiving and executing public relations, advertising, and marketing plans for the Museum and its exhibitions and programs; conceptualizing, writing, and editing speeches, news releases, and advertising copy; developing marketing and public relations budgets and overseeing department expenditures; servicing sponsors and partners with regard to public relations needs and requirements; and representing the Museum at community and industry meetings.

Specific duties include: serving as a spokesperson and responding to inquiries from the media; editing a quarterly promotional publication; hiring and managing relationships with consultants, designers, and other external contractors for special projects; pitching stories to the media; orchestrating special marketing events, including the monthly Steel Lounge party series and the annual Museum District Day; carrying out advertising campaigns; training and preparing colleagues for media appearances; traveling to regional and national meetings and media appearances to promote the Museum and plan for future exhibitions; maintaining files, archives, and mailing lists; and overseeing the Museum’s website.

The Communications and Marketing Manager is the sole full-time employee of the Department of Communications and Marketing and reports to the Director.

The successful candidate will have a minimum of a bachelor’s degree in a related field (communications, marketing, journalism, art history, etc.) and an interest in contemporary art, as well as 3+ years experience in an integrated communications position, preferably with a non-profit organization. This individual will possess excellent written and verbal communication skills, the ability to extrapolate essential information from verbal and written formats, the ability to read and analyze reports and budgets, and computer proficiency with multiple applications including Microsoft Office programs.

Salary commensurate with experience.
