Through a variety of methodologies- from paint and canvas to ink and silkscreen and mouse and monitor- DUAL is an art addict with a mission. His street installations employ guerrilla war tactics, but they are personal "urban beautification projects".

... Get there another! Phillip Perez might not have won the Artadia award this year, but he did just collect $20,000 from the City of Houston to settle a wrongful arrest lawsuit stemming from an unpleasant incident at the Westheimer Block Party.

The worst part for the city is that Perez aka ARTICLE had been working with their Graffiti Task force- according to a Chron article- "to paint anti-smoking murals in the city and to educate law enforcement about graffiti."
They basically busted their own informant and the ACLU bit them in the ass.

"Mr. Perez is very happy," said Randall Kallinen, his attorney. "This shows that people will not stand for being illegally arrested. Mr. Perez stood up for his rights."

I worked there for about three years, and I imagine it is as sleepy today as ever. I was a really bad employee.
I would imagine any wrecking balls will have a tough time getting traction... All the lawyer heavies come in, and the River Oaks high schoolers (the girls always have black eyes and bandages from nosejobs each August) with their AmEx parents.
The building is the oldest remaining theater in Houston, and the crazy colors and murals are from a short-lived Italian Seafood restaurant that operated there in the 80s. Sometimes people would come in and say they saw The Empire Strikes Back there- I bet it was the last film ever shown in the theater.
p.s.- it has been on the endangered list for over a year.
